Samsung Announces Exynos 5 Octa: 8 Core Processor for Mobiles

At its second Keynote in CES 2013, Samsung announced its latest processor for smartphones, Samsung Exynos 5 Octa. The Processor is the first 8 Core processor for mobile Phones and is set to take the market by Storm. Yes! you read it right, its an 8 Core Processor!

samsung CESSamsung announced this Processor for its smartphone today and we can surely expect this latest tech. to be the part of the upcoming flagship of Samsung, Samsung Galaxy S4.

The Samsung Exynos 5 Octa Processor is built on ARM’s big.LITTLE Processor Technology. The 28-nanometer Processor has 8 Cores which include four 1.8GHz Cortex-A15 and four 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 Cores. This ARM Architecture allows for switching between the two set of processors for high and low work load Respectively.

Samsung Claims that this technology will improve the battery life of smartphones by 70%, a very steep claim. Processors in smartphones usually are capable of lowering there power consumption at low workloads but switching cores is smart.

Samsung also Claims that the 3D performance will be much better. Samsung demonstrated the chip by running a HD movie on a device powered by the core and simultaneously surfing for restaurants smoothly.

The question that arises is that will all the 8 Cores work simultaneously if needed. If not, then this Chip is actually a Quad Core Package.
